Beginning and end, death and rebirth, these are the themes which greet the guest in Room No. 105. The work by the artist Julia Bornefeld takes up the basics of human existence and develops them in paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations.

The spacious room with a seating group, bay window and view of the Walther-Platz square leave abundant space for a range of archaic objects, or rather those which exert an archetypical effect. They fascinate the beholder and direct his or her view towards the interior.

Basic forms such as the bed, the egg, bird, funnel, cone and bag are images which recur in her works in many variations. With the bed Bornefeld deals with our basic human conditions: love, birth, dreams and death. The egg alludes to the beginning of all life, to the genesis.

The lovingly restored original furniture from the depository of the old Hotel Greif provide an interesting contrast to the artist’s ultra-modern work.

In short, a space which induces the beholder to reflect on his or her origins and fosters introspection.
