Setting up Room 301: Matthias Schönweger and cage

Why not reside in your imagination – or that of Matthias Schönweger? The work of this South Tyrolean artist comprises playful pieces, activities, assemblages, paintings and found materials. In Room 310, Schönweger spent days meticulously installing a collection of these found materials, accompanied by a parrot and a common Bolzano souvenir known as ‘tuna angels’. The cage sign is a play on words: are the angels bemoaning their lot as powerless kitsch figurines, or their imprisonment?
