Our personal recommendations
Everyone in South Tyrol – and everyone at the Greif – has their own favourite spot in the town or surrounding countryside. We won’t give all our secrets away, but we will share a few.

Freiraum Mumi
The osteria Freiraum Mumi awaits you with wine, snacks and vibes. Michael loves to welcome you into his world of wine. From Griesbauerhof wines to international rarities, you may taste different wines accompanied by homemade focaccia and bruschetta garnished with vegetables from our garden. Music included.

A glass at Lisa's
Always friendly, cheerful and best-informed: this is Lisa. The wine boutique, named after her, in Via Dr. Streiter is the place to be for a glass – or two. Easily an aperitivo transforms into a tasting with a new favourite at its end – one that can’t be missing back home.

Ice, ice, baby
Who says about himself „I’m ice cream“ must love his profession. Bolzano native Paolo Coletto and it’s artisan ice cream workshop Avalon in Corso Libertà are know beyond the city. There is a story to tell behind every flavour. Curious? Click hear to read more.

Sweet temptation
A must try for chocolate lovers! The tiny pastry shop Cadario in Via Latemar uses only best, natural products. Every single handmade cupcake and praline is a real masterpiece. Almost too good-looking to eat. Almost.
A real eye-catcher at all our brithday partys at Grifoncino Cocktail Bar.

Dumpling variation
Why choose one if you can have all three of them? Beetroot, spinach and cheese. The Restaurant "Vögele" in the city centre is our very favourit when it comes to the South Tyrolean classic. Dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen and many more are served in the traditional wood covered Stube or outside under the historic archades of Bolzano.

Bolzano Fairytale
According to the legend, dwarf king Laurin destroyed his rose garden with a curse. Neither the bright day nor the dark night should ever again see the magnificene of his roses. Only barren, pale rocks, should remain. However, Laurin forgott to inlcude the twilight between day and night…
Be at the Talfer bridge just before sunset and - with a little luck - the Catinaccio Massif in front of you will be illuminated with a blaze of red light. The murals to the story you find at the Laurin Bar.

A sea of blossoms
From mid March to mid April all eyes are on the „Meraner Röschen“, a special rose in the private park of sister hotel Laurin. Impressively it winds itself up to the top of a century old cedar from Libanon. Coundless tender, light yellow roses cover the tree up and are our very special herald of Spring.

Alois Lageder’s Paradais
At the end of the South Tyrolean wine road, at Magreid, it awaits you a very special inner courtyard. Here, at the winery Alois Lageder“ the focus is on a biodynamic agriculture, that respects the people, animals and the circles of nature. Stop by for a wine tasting and a light lunch at the organic certifed restaurant.

Coffee made in South Tyrol
Because good, is not good enough. Valentin Hofer is Italy’s first Chief Coffee Sommelier. In his rostery, shop, coffeseum and training centre „Caroma“ in Fiè he is in constant search for the highest quality. Our favourit on the breakfast table: Bio Fair Trade 100% Arrabica.

On the traces of history
Castel d’Appiano, Castel Boymont and Castel Corba: the Three Castel Trail at Appiano is perfect for a little walk. Especially in Spring and Autumn, when the leaves shine in the brightes colours.
Castel d’Appiano is known for it’s stunning view over Bolzano, best enjoyed on the sunny terrace by a traditional South Tyrolean lunch. Meanwhile the courtyards are a great playground for kids - full of adventure.
Walking time: 2 hours (total)
