Always

Why not ring the changes and stay at a hotel full of art in the heart of Bolzano? You’re welcome to touch everything here; we’re great believers in the personal touch.

Franz Staffler is the man who created the Greif as you see it today. He chose all the Rubelli fabrics, selected six types of marble for the bathrooms and matched the carpets to the rooms. He gave 33 artists a free hand to create a unique visual feast. And found an architect who could conserve 500 years of history while creating something contemporary too. Thanks to Franz Staffler, all 33 rooms have a knack that’s rare in hotels: they make you want to live there. Try one and you’ll see what we mean.

Do gryphons exist? Of course, if you believe in them. Since time immemorial they have protected the things we value. By day, and in our dreams.

A man

and a vision

Franz Staffler was very clear that wanted his Greif to be comfortable and beautiful. So he only accepted materials and ideas that would stand the test of time.

True hoteliers think in dynasties. Their goal is to pass on what they inherit – an attitude Franz Staffler grew up with. He is committed to tradition, and believes his innovative spirit is no more than the family deserves. The businessman and patron of the arts had a clear vision for his new Greif: “I wanted a symbiosis of hotel and art, not just a hotel that frames art.” From the architecture to the art and hand-crafted furniture, not a single detail was overlooked.

GREIF GOES GREEN

TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE – CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Day by day, we strive to ensure that our guests not only find an environment in excellent condition, but also that future generations can experience a better world than the one we inherited. We firmly believe in the importance of protecting and preserving the environment. The choices we make today have a direct impact on tomorrow. That’s why we combine comfort with sustainability, offering a conscious and authentic experience in the heart of Bolzano. Our vision is to be the soul of the city, a symbol of true excellence, infused with art and history, creating lasting memories. Our mission is to build meaningful connections and offer personal hospitality, in harmony with the place and the people who shape it. Three core pillars define our commitment to a sustainable future:
  • Environmental protection
  • Social engagement
  • Preservation of heritage

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

1) We reduce paper usage: We have adopted digital solutions to digitize processes that previously required paper documents, thereby contributing to paper consumption reduction.
2) We combat waste: We actively promote recycling by providing dedicated bins in every area of the hotel. A large part of our amenities is no longer disposable, helping to reduce plastic waste. We continuously monitor our water and energy consumption, committing to operate with the highest efficiency and environmental responsibility.
3) We promote sustainable mobility: We have installed electric vehicle charging stations, encouraging our guests and employees to use eco-friendly transportation. We provide bicycles for our guests to explore the city or attend meetings and gatherings without impacting the environment.
4) We support local producers: We prefer to collaborate with local suppliers offering locally sourced products, reducing transportation impact and supporting the local economy.
Internal craftsmanship for furnishings: The furniture adorning our rooms and bar is handcrafted in our internal carpentry, ensuring unique and sustainable design.
5) We clean while respecting the environment: We mostly use eco-label certified detergents to ensure impeccable hygiene. For thorough cleaning and effective elimination of bacteria and viruses, we use machinery that operates at high temperatures. Additionally, sanitary accessories are only removed and washed if placed on the floor, reducing waste.
6) We encourage nature and culture-based experiences: The experiences we offer are designed to connect guests with nature and local culture, promoting hiking, cycling, and walking tours as sustainable alternatives to car travel. By inspiring exploration on foot or by bike, we help reduce reliance on polluting transport and foster a deeper connection with the surrounding environment.

SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment that supports a more positive workplace culture and a better working atmosphere.

1) We involve people in sustainable practices from day one: During onboarding, new employees are introduced to all the eco-friendly measures and behaviors outlined in the hotel’s ethical code.
2) We protect the well-being of our staff: We support our employees through welfare programs that offer access to discounted services and promote health and well-being.
3) We promote the acquisition and development of skills: We offer training for all our staff, conduct performance reviews, and support professional growth, not only in technical skills but also in interpersonal and cross-functional skills.
4) We support those in need: We collaborate with the CLAB association, which promotes social inclusion through artistic and cultural projects. Our shop windows showcase their creations, giving visibility to works that tell stories of community and sensitivity.

CULTURE AND HERITAGE

Since its founding in 1816, Hotel Greif has maintained a deep connection to art. Each of its 33 rooms was designed and furnished by a different artist, each given complete creative freedom to express their personal vision. Significant original architectural elements, such as the historic hotel entrance, have been preserved, creating a harmonious dialogue between past and present.
We also collaborate with local and international art institutions to promote culture and keep our artistic commitment alive.

1) We collaborate with partners who share our values: We carefully assess the CSR approach of our partners to ensure alignment with our principles.
2) We preserve local culture: We support the costs of many local artistic and cultural projects aimed at promoting South Tyrol’s traditions and craftsmanship. Additionally, we offer the hotel as a space for experimentation to young university talents and promote artistic and cultural workshops to foster continuous and sustainable innovation.
3) We pass on our heritage: With over 200 years of history, we have witnessed significant historical moments, which we share with great care and pride. Press conferences, guided school tours, and participation in local tourism initiatives are just a few of the ways we share our story and cultural heritage with the community.
4) We promote young talents: We collaborate with the University of Bolzano, supporting and showcasing artistic and interdisciplinary projects within the hotel that highlight regional talent and research.
