Hiroko Nakajima-Beckers has designed two wall cupboards whose large ink designs are rooted in Japanese calligraphy. She plays with the character’s pictorial Gestalt to create a work that is simultaneously written and pictorial. If you have a poetic streak, you can recognise the ‘Journey of the Dragonfly’ Nakajima-Beckers chose as her title. The German-based artist studied East Asian calligraphy and now integrates Western elements into her art too.
